History: Victoria Hall is a concert hall in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, and opened in 1888, having  been constructed to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee the previous year. The Regent  Theatre is a theatre in Stoke-on-Trent city centre and was constructed in 1929 as a cinema,  and is also operated by the Ambassador Theatre Group on behalf of Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

For the last 25 years, The Regent Theatre and Victoria Hall have, and remain so, at the very  heart of Stoke-on-Trent city centre and high street providing vibrant, welcoming venue for  communities and visitors to enjoy. Both venues also provide an anchor point to the city  centre high street experience where people meet, visit and enjoy neighbouring hospitality and retail along the way. This visible and significant positive impact for the city includes a  clear commitment to innovative, collaborative partnership working. Both the Regent and  Victoria Hall are embedded in both community inclusion, visitor attraction and high street  initiatives that raise the profile of the city centre and support jobs and skills for now and  long into the future.  

As one of cornerstones of the city centre high street, the teams from The Regent and  Victoria Hall take their role & position very seriously. Working to attract and deliver  internationally recognised performances and experiences, headlines their activity to  ensure that Stoke-on-Trent continues to be chosen by audiences as a place to enjoy, visit  and stay. Both venues continue to both attract major touring productions as well as  supporting locally led performances, reflecting both national excellence and local pride.  With over 250,000 visitors each year, a growth of 9% over the last 4 years, both venues are  delivering a clear and in demand cultural offer at the heart of the high street. Vibrant  experiences within their venues also spill out into surrounding streets where neighbouring  hospitality businesses compliment the offer, providing economic impact & jobs across the city centre.  

With a clear focus to provide welcoming, mixed use space for visitors and local residents  alike, The Regent and Victoria Hall are careful to ensure that the experiences they create  provide renewed confidence in the high street for local residents as well as offering  something special that visitors will travel further for. Both venues play a crucial role is  raising the profile of the city centre for all. As well as attracting audiences from across the  wider region, about 40% of visitors are from ST, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent  postcodes. However, the impact reaches far beyond the memories of a satisfied audience.  

Community networks and building skills, confidence and opportunities is also a central  goal for The Regent and Victoria Hall. Deeply committed to championing local  communities and creating opportunities for the next generation, young and emerging  performers are offered a range of experiences from the chance to step onto a professional  stage to developing new skills in production, artwork, music and behind the scenes. Often  for the very first time, these initiative, delivered through collaborations and ATG Inspire,  build confidence, ambition and a sense of belonging with many examples that these skills  and experiences start careers all over the world. Both venues are also keen to ensure that  theatre is accessible to all. For example, they donate thousands of tickets each year to  YMCA North Staffordshire and local foster carers, creating opportunities for shared  experiences that might otherwise be out of reach.  

As well as working in their community and striving to ensure that both venues continue to  create a positive impact, the team from both venues are also involved in a range of  additional initiatives and collaborations to broaden understanding about the needs and  challenges of the people and institutions around them. A variety of team members and  the leadership engage with projects and partnerships from Soundscape Board, who are  focussed on developing new opportunities for musicians and artists across the city, to  work with Black Onyx, to better understand community challenges around knife crime and  how theatre could support early prevention and intervention. Other examples of this  commitment to collaborative working to create positive impact includes regular networking with local businesses, aligning to the priorities of the City Centre BID team,  engaging with the LVEP and local educational establishments and centres.
